What to do during downtime on a business trip?
Whether it’s your first business trip ever or your hundredth, you deserve to have some fun. Mixing business with pleasure doesn’t have to be so difficult. Even if you didn’t pre-plan your downtime adventures, this blog is all you’ll need to get started on some much-needed fun. What to do during downtime on a business trip? You ask. Well here is your guide:
1. Take advantage of what your hotel has to offer
Does your hotel have a sauna? a spa? a sweet swimming pool area or something quite unique that you wouldn’t know about unless you went out to explore your hotel. Well, now’s the time to do it! You could meet some amazing people this way and have an unexpectedly good downtime all the while being 5 minutes away from your bed, so you can hit the hay whenever the jet lag kicks in.
What if your hotel isn’t that fancy? No worries, hunt out a scenic place in your hotel and read a book. Or stay in bed, order some expensive room service (because your company is picking the tab anyway, wink-wink!), maybe some wine, get in your hotel-issued bathrobe and relax watching a movie.
2. Take your clients out!
You want to make a good impression? or get that promotion your boss promised if you signed the client? Then it may be better to do something more than the bare minimum. Research your client’s interests. Organize something original. Building a good relationship with your client, letting them see you outside of the professional setting to know you as a person, will help your chances a lot! Take them to the best spots in the city. Like eating at a fancy restaurant with a live band or some sporting event unique to that city. The options are truly endless!
Get to know them as a friend. Focus on doing something fun you would do with a friend.
3. Meet a friend in the city
You don’t have to take your client out if you don’t want to but catching up with a friend who lives in the city can be a fun way to kill the extra time. They can show you some amazing hidden spots only a person living there would know. Like maybe you’re yet to eat the best pizza of your life and your friend knows just the place! Exploring the city, doing touristy things can be fun with the company of your friend.
And if that doesn’t sound like something you want to do, no worries, a quiet night at their place, having dinner, and talking may be all you need.
4. Take yourself out!
After all, you don’t need someone else to explore a new city! You just need a quick Google search or help from your concierge to know exactly where your next stop is. See the sights and do everything you wouldn’t have hesitated to do with a friend alone. Regardless of what city you’re in, there are sure to be many places to visit! Make sure to try some famous dishes of the city. Maybe there is a particular bakery famous far and wide, and now you can finally try it for yourself!
5. Go shopping
Even if you like shopping or not, doing it in a new city will be a different experience. And who knows you may find something amazing to remember this place by. You can also get some souvenirs for your friends and family while you’re at it!
That’s it! That’s 5 ways to plan a business trip filled with equal part fun and work.
